Community Guidelines

Effective August 29, 2026

Simmer is a place to share what you cook and learn from other home cooks. These Guidelines describe what is and is not welcome in the community.

1. Keep Simmer welcoming

Simmer is for people who want to cook, learn, share what they make, and connect around food. Treat other people with respect. Disagreement is fine; harassment and abuse are not.

2. No harassment, bullying, or threats

3. No hate or dehumanizing content

Do not attack, dehumanize, threaten, or promote hatred toward people based on protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, disability, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or similar protected status.

4. Sexual content and exploitation

5. Self-harm and dangerous behavior

Do not encourage, instruct, celebrate, or pressure others to engage in self-harm, suicide, eating-disorder behavior, or other serious physical harm. Supportive discussion and recovery-oriented conversation are allowed when they do not promote harmful behavior.

6. Food safety and dangerous recipes

Cooking involves real-world safety risks. Do not intentionally promote instructions designed to poison, seriously injure, or deceive people about dangerous ingredients, unsafe preparation, or contamination. Clearly identify unusual ingredients or techniques when omission could create a serious safety risk.

Users remain responsible for checking allergens, food handling, cooking temperatures, ingredient safety, and whether a recipe is appropriate for them.

7. Privacy and personal information

Do not publish or threaten to publish another person's private or sensitive information without permission, including home addresses, private contact details, financial information, passwords, government identifiers, or similarly sensitive data. Do not use Simmer to stalk or track another person.

8. Authenticity, spam, and fraud

9. Illegal goods, services, and conduct

Do not use Simmer to facilitate criminal activity or the sale, distribution, or procurement of illegal or prohibited goods and services. Do not post instructions whose primary purpose is to enable serious wrongdoing.

10. Intellectual property

Share recipes, photos, writing, and other content that you have the right to share. Do not intentionally copy or upload someone else's protected work in a way that violates their rights. Give credit when appropriate and respect requests involving legitimate intellectual-property concerns.

11. Reporting and blocking

If you see content or behavior that violates these Guidelines, use Simmer's reporting tools. You can also block users you do not want to interact with. Reports should be made in good faith; do not weaponize reporting to harass or silence people you simply disagree with.

For urgent safety issues or if in-app reporting is not available, contact support@simmercooks.com. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

12. How we enforce these Guidelines

We may use automated filtering, moderation systems, user reports, and human review to enforce these Guidelines. Depending on the circumstances, we may remove or limit content, restrict features, warn a user, suspend or terminate an account, or take other reasonable safety measures.

Context matters. We may consider intent, severity, likelihood of harm, repetition, and whether content is educational, documentary, culinary, artistic, or otherwise relevant. Enforcement systems can make mistakes, and you may contact us if you believe an action was taken in error.

13. These Guidelines can evolve

We may update these Community Guidelines as Simmer grows and new safety issues emerge. Material updates will be reflected by changing the effective date above and, where appropriate, providing additional notice.
